UP Telemetry Collector

Real-Time Flow Telemetry Exporter

A hardware-accelerated telemetry daemon that extracts flow metrics, drop causes, and latency histograms directly from UPF forwarding pipelines.

Technical Explanation

Traditional network counters only report coarse 15-minute average bandwidth numbers, masking instantaneous micro-bursts and packet drop spikes. The User Plane Telemetry Collector extracts fine-grained flow state directly from SmartNICs and DPDK buffers at 1-millisecond intervals. Streaming via gRPC/Protobuf into NWDAF analytics engines, it gives operators immediate visibility into transient congestion events.

Key Functions

  • Extracting microsecond flow metrics, queue depths, and packet drop causes at line rate
  • High-throughput streaming telemetry export using binary gRPC and Apache Arrow formats
  • Real-time detection of micro-burst buffer overflows that degrade low-latency HRLLC flows
  • Direct integration with NWDAF and Digital Twin Network real-time simulation pipelines
  • Zero impact on main packet forwarding latency due to dedicated SmartNIC telemetry offload

3GPP Rel-19 TS 28.550 (Performance Management), IETF RFC 9197
