Cascaded Multi-Tier RIS

Multi-Hop Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Reflection Network

Coordinated network of multiple smart metasurfaces reflecting beams around multiple sharp corners to illuminate deep indoor labyrinths.

Technical Explanation

In complex environments like multi-corridor hospitals or subterranean subway stations, a single RIS cannot establish a line of sight to deep rooms. Cascaded Multi-Tier RIS coordinates reflections across a chain of 2 to 4 metasurface tiles installed on successive hallway corners. Edge AI algorithms jointly optimize the phase reflection matrices across all surfaces simultaneously, guiding high-gain sub-THz beams around multiple right-angle corners with minimal power loss.

Key Functions

  • Guides sub-THz beams around multiple sharp right-angle building corners
  • Jointly optimizes phase shift matrices across cascaded metasurface chains
  • Illuminates subterranean subways and complex multi-room hospital facilities
  • Eliminates the cost of deploying active repeater base stations in secondary corridors
