Approved in late 2023 by ITU-R Study Group 5, Recommendation ITU-R M.2160 establishes the international benchmark for 6G (termed IMT-2030). It defines 6 core usage scenarios and 15 overarching capability indicators, mandating that 6G bridge digital divides, weave native artificial intelligence and sensing into wireless links, and achieve net-zero environmental sustainability.
