Ultra-fast electronic switching matrix that routes sub-THz signals to different focal points of an integrated dielectric lens to steer beams.
Technical Explanation
Phase shifters at 140-300 GHz introduce significant insertion loss and consume substantial power in handsets. The lens feed matrix switcher uses low-loss gallium nitride (GaN) or RF MEMS switches to toggle between an array of miniature patch feeds located behind a flat dielectric focal lens. By illuminating different physical feed positions on the focal curve, the terminal redirects its narrow sub-THz beam across 120° in azimuth and elevation in nanoseconds with minimal insertion loss.
