Sync Raster

Synchronization Raster

Sparse frequency grid identifying valid frequency positions for SS/PBCH blocks during cell search.

Technical Explanation

The synchronization raster specifies the exact candidate carrier frequencies where an SSB may be broadcast. It is substantially coarser than the 100 kHz channel raster of LTE, allowing a 5G device to scan wide bands (e.g. 100 MHz to 400 MHz) in tens of milliseconds during blind initial search.

Key Functions

  • Defines candidate center frequencies for SSB reception
  • Significantly sparser than standard channel raster for fast scanning
  • Mapped directly to Global Synchronization Channel Numbers (GSCN)
