SSS
Secondary Synchronization Signal
Second synchronization signal in the SSB providing cell identity group N_ID_1 (0 to 335) to determine the full Physical Cell ID (PCI).
Technical Explanation
The SSS is a Gold sequence of length 127 transmitted on symbol 2 of the SS/PBCH block. It encodes 336 unique sequence pairs corresponding to N_ID_1. Together with N_ID_2 from the PSS, the UE computes the exact PCI: PCI = 3 * N_ID_1 + N_ID_2 (1008 total physical cell identities in 5G NR).
Key Functions
- Determines physical cell identity group N_ID_1 (0 to 335)
- Computes complete Physical Cell ID (1008 distinct PCIs)
- Resolves 10 ms radio frame boundary alignment
