SSC Mode 3
Session and Service Continuity Mode 3 (Make-Before-Break)
Session continuity mode establishing a new IP session before terminating the old one for hitless relocation.
Technical Explanation
In SSC Mode 3 (Make-Before-Break), the network initiates establishment of a new PDU session through a closer UPF while temporarily maintaining the old PDU session. The UE's application transitions connections smoothly to the new IP address before the old session is torn down, achieving zero packet loss.
Key Functions
- Establishes new local IP session before releasing old session (Make-Before-Break)
- Achieves zero packet loss and minimal service interruption
- Ideal for connected vehicles and mobile edge computing relocations
