S-Criterion
Cell Selection S-Criterion
Mathematical rule evaluating whether a cell's signal strength (Srxlev) and quality (Squal) qualify for camp-on.
Technical Explanation
A cell is deemed suitable for camping if Srxlev > 0 and Squal > 0: Srxlev = Qrxlevmeas - (Qrxlevmin + Qrxlevminoffset) - Pcompensation - Qoffsettemp; Squal = Qqualmeas - (Qqualmin + Qqualminoffset) - Qoffsettemp. Parameters Qrxlevmin and Qqualmin are broadcast in SIB1.
Key Functions
- Standardized gatekeeper formula evaluating suitability of candidate cell
- Guarantees minimum signal strength (RSRP) and quality (RSRQ)
- Prevents camping on cells too weak to establish reliable Uplink/Downlink
