RRC Release with Suspend
RRC Release with Suspend Configuration
Command moving UE from RRC_CONNECTED to RRC_INACTIVE while preserving core and RAN contexts.
Technical Explanation
To conserve UE power while avoiding costly core signaling, the gNodeB transmits RRCRelease containing a suspendConfig IE. This provides the UE with an I-RNTI, paging cycle, and RAN Notification Area (RNA) parameters, parking the UE in RRC_INACTIVE with dormant context stored in both UE and gNodeB memory.
Key Functions
- Transitions UE into energy-saving RRC_INACTIVE state
- Assigns I-RNTI and RAN Notification Area (RNA) configuration
- Stores suspended AS security and radio contexts for fast resume
