RLC TM

Radio Link Control Transparent Mode

Stateless RLC mode adding zero header overhead, used for broadcast control channels (BCCH, PCCH).

Technical Explanation

In Transparent Mode (TM), the RLC layer performs no segmentation, concatenation, or sequence numbering. Data passes through completely transparently with zero header overhead. It is used exclusively for broadcast control channels: BCCH (MIB/SIBs) and PCCH (Paging).

Key Functions

  • Introduces zero protocol header overhead
  • No segmentation, reassembly, or error correction
  • Used strictly for broadcast system information (BCCH) and paging (PCCH)
