XR QoE Metrics

Standardized Extended Reality Quality of Experience Telemetry

Defines standardized client-side telemetry reporting to the network, including frame drop rate, motion-to-photon latency, and visual freeze counts.

Technical Explanation

Network-layer metrics (like packet loss) fail to capture subjective human immersion. 3GPP Rel-18 standardizes client-side XR QoE (Quality of Experience) telemetry reporting: headsets periodically report decoded frame rates, motion-to-photon delay, visual artifact counts, and buffer starvation events to the NWDAF, enabling automated network self-tuning.

Key Functions

  • Collects standardized user-perceived Quality of Experience telemetry from AR/VR headsets
  • Reports motion-to-photon latency, frame freeze duration, and decoder starvation events
  • Feeds real-time QoE metrics into the NWDAF (Network Data Analytics Function)
  • Automates closed-loop slice resource re-allocation to protect degraded user experiences
