XR Edge GPU Acceleration

Edge Computing Low-Latency Graphics Offload Framework

Network discovery and session routing architecture that binds mobile headsets to the closest physical edge cloud GPU node within 2 ms network round-trip.

Technical Explanation

Streaming interactive XR from distant central hyperscale cloud data centers incurs 30-50 ms of optical fiber transport latency, destroying real-time interaction. Rel-18 Edge Acceleration enhances 5GC User Plane Function (UPF) local breakout and Edge Application Server Discovery, routing headset traffic to GPU clusters located within the local metropolitan aggregation office.

Key Functions

  • Binds user XR sessions to the geographically closest edge computing data center
  • Maintains sub-2 millisecond transport latency between base station and edge GPU
  • Executes seamless session relocation when users travel between base station coverage zones
  • Supports dynamic DNS and EAS (Edge Application Server) discovery protocols
Specifications
3GPP TS 23.501, TS 23.558 (Rel-18)
Interfaces
N6 (Edge)N3 (UPF)Uu
