5G UTM Integration

Unmanned Traffic Management Cloud-Network Interworking

Direct interface between the 5G Core network and civil aviation Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) clouds, enforcing dynamic no-fly zones in real time.

Technical Explanation

To manage thousands of commercial drones safely, telecom networks must interface directly with civil aviation servers. Rel-18 5G UTM integration connects the 5G Core Network Exposure Function (NEF) to aviation UTM clouds: the network validates flight permits, tracks drone air corridors, and pushes real-time dynamic no-fly zones (e.g. around emergency helicopter operations).

Key Functions

  • Interfaces 5G Core network functions directly with civil aviation UTM traffic control servers
  • Enforces dynamic no-fly geofences around wildfires, airports, and public stadiums in real time
  • Authorizes drone cellular connections only after validating flight registration credentials
  • Enables automated, pilotless drone delivery fleets across major metropolitan air corridors
Specifications
3GPP TS 23.256, TS 29.522 (Rel-18)
Interfaces
