Sidelink Channel FDM
Frequency-Division Multiplexing of Sidelink Control and Data
Multiplexes physical sidelink control channels (PSCCH) and data channels (PSSCH) in frequency within the same slot to reduce transmission latency.
Technical Explanation
In earlier sidelink releases, control and data channels were strictly time-multiplexed, forcing terminals to wait for subsequent symbols to transmit data. Rel-18 Sidelink FDM allows PSCCH control and PSSCH data to be transmitted simultaneously across adjacent sub-channels, maximizing spectrum packing efficiency and reducing transmission slot duration.
Key Functions
- Multiplexes sidelink control (PSCCH) and shared data (PSSCH) simultaneously in frequency
- Reduces physical layer transmission slot latency for time-critical safety messages
- Maximizes spectral efficiency across allocated vehicular channel bandwidths
- Improves receiver decoding pipelining on automotive V2X telematics control units
