O-RAN Energy Control Plane

Open RAN O1 and E2 Interface Energy Saving Orchestration

Standardized O-RAN architecture where Energy rApps in the Non-RT RIC analyze multi-vendor network telemetry to automate cell sleep commands over O1.

Technical Explanation

In disaggregated Open RAN architectures, energy saving policies must work seamlessly across multi-vendor radio units (O-RU), distributed units (O-DU), and centralized units (O-CU). Rel-18 aligns 3GPP energy saving models with O-RAN standards, enabling Energy rApps in the Non-RT RIC to issue standardized sleep, wake, and muting commands via O1 and E2 interfaces.

Key Functions

  • Enables standardized energy saving orchestration across multi-vendor Open RAN hardware
  • Executes Energy rApps in the Non-RT RIC to optimize cell power based on big data telemetry
  • Issues automated power control commands over standard O1 and E2 interfaces
  • Harmonizes 3GPP 5G-Advanced specifications with global Open RAN Alliance standards
