Energy-Saving BWP Adaptation

Fast Frequency-Domain Bandwidth Part Scaling for Base Stations

Restricts active cell transmission bandwidth (e.g. shrinking from 100 MHz to 20 MHz) during low-load periods to reduce RF power consumption.

Technical Explanation

Transmitting across an ultra-wide 100 MHz bandwidth burns significant digital filtering and power amplifier energy. In Rel-18, base stations utilize energy-saving BWP adaptation to narrow active transmission bandwidth to 20 MHz or 40 MHz during lull periods, steering all connected UEs into the narrow bandwidth part and lowering transceiver power.
