Beam-Specific Power Scaling
Adaptive Per-Beam Transmission Power Allocation
Dynamically reduces radiated power on individual spatial beams serving nearby users, radiating full power only on beams serving distant cell-edge users.
Technical Explanation
Legacy base stations radiated uniform maximum power across all antenna beams regardless of user proximity. Rel-18 Beam-Specific Power Scaling monitors user path loss and Channel Quality Indicators (CQI) on a per-beam basis: beams directed toward close-in users scale power down by 10 to 15 dB, slashing total RF radiation while maintaining required SNR.
Key Functions
- Dynamically scales radiated RF power independently across individual spatial beams
- Reduces transmit power by 10 to 15 dB on beams serving nearby mobile terminals
- Radiates maximum power only on narrow beams pointed toward distant cell-edge users
- Lowers overall base station energy consumption and suppresses inter-cell interference
