Group-Based Beam Reporting
Rel-18 Simultaneous Compatible Multi-Beam Channel Reporting
UE reports pairs of orthogonal beams that can be received simultaneously by multi-panel antennas without mutual interference.
Technical Explanation
To enable multi-panel spatial multiplexing, the gNodeB needs to know which beams the UE can receive at the same instant. In Rel-18 Group-Based Beam Reporting, the terminal reports sets of compatible beam pairs (e.g. Beam A on Panel 1 and Beam B on Panel 2) that exhibit low cross-talk, enabling true multi-stream dual-TRP downlink transmission.
Key Functions
- Identifies mutually compatible spatial beam pairs for simultaneous multi-TRP reception
- Prevents base stations from scheduling conflicting beams that blind multi-panel UEs
- Maximizes spatial multiplexing gains and multi-stream downlink data throughput
- Optimizes power consumption across dual-panel receiver front-ends
