Extended sleep cycles (up to 10485.76 seconds / 2.9 hours) allowing RedCap sensors to achieve multi-year battery life.

Technical Explanation

Standard connected DRX cycles max out at 10.24 seconds. Rel-17 RedCap introduces extended DRX (eDRX) reaching up to nearly 3 hours in RRC_IDLE and RRC_INACTIVE. Devices sleep deeply for hours, waking up only briefly to check paging, enabling battery lifespans of 5 to 10 years on single coin cells.
