PBCH DMRS

PBCH Demodulation Reference Signal

Reference signal embedded in PBCH allocations used for channel estimation and SSB beam index decoding.

Technical Explanation

PBCH DMRS is pseudo-randomly placed on every fourth subcarrier within PBCH OFDM symbols (symbols 1, 2, and 3 of the SSB). It provides channel estimation for decoding the PBCH payload and encodes the 3 least significant bits of the SSB beam index in FR1 (or all 6 bits in FR2) through sequence generation.

Key Functions

  • Enables coherent channel estimation and PBCH equalization
  • Encodes SSB beam index LSBs through Gold sequence initialization
  • Supports RSRP measurements for beam selection during cell evaluation
