Near-RT RIC
Near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller
Microservice platform executing radio optimization algorithms (xApps) with loop response times of 10 ms to 1 s.
Technical Explanation
The Near-RT RIC connects to O-CU and O-DU nodes over the E2 interface. It hosts third-party microservices called xApps that execute automated radio control: fast beam management, per-user mobility optimization, dynamic traffic steering, and interference coordination in near-real-time (10 ms - 1000 ms).
Key Functions
- Executes automated radio optimization loops with 10 ms to 1 s response times
- Hosts modular, containerized xApp microservices from diverse software vendors
- Directs base station scheduling and mobility behavior over the open E2 interface
