N26 Interface
N26 Interworking Interface (AMF to MME)
Interworking control plane interface between 5GC AMF and 4G EPC MME for fast seamless inter-system handovers.
Technical Explanation
N26 connects the 5G AMF to the 4G MME over standard GTPv2-C protocol. It allows seamless, single-registration handovers between 5G and 4G without dropping active voice or data connections. Deployments without N26 rely on slower blind redirection.
Key Functions
- Interconnects 5G AMF and legacy 4G MME using GTPv2-C signaling
- Enables seamless, fast inter-system handover between 5G and 4G LTE
- Transfers security vectors and bearer contexts for uninterrupted VoNR/VoLTE
