IMSI-Catcher Protection

5G Rogue Base Station Protection

Architectural defense mechanism preventing rogue cell towers from intercepting subscriber identities.

Technical Explanation

Legacy 2G/3G/4G networks were vulnerable to 'stingrays' (IMSI-catchers) that broadcast fake cell identities and commanded devices to transmit plaintext IMSIs. 5G eliminates this vulnerability by encrypting subscriber identity as a SUCI using public-key cryptography before transmission, making eavesdropping impossible.

Key Functions

  • Renders fake cell tower stingrays and IMSI-catchers completely obsolete
  • Enforces asymmetric public-key encryption (SUCI) on initial connection
  • Protects subscriber location, presence, and metadata from surveillance
