Active BWP

Active Bandwidth Part

Currently operational BWP where the UE transmits and receives data at any given moment.

Technical Explanation

While a UE can have up to 4 configured BWPs per serving cell, exactly one downlink BWP and one uplink BWP can be active simultaneously (in non-SUL mode). The UE tunes its baseband and RF filters strictly to the Active BWP, monitoring PDCCH and transmitting PUSCH only within this subset of the carrier.

Key Functions

  • Restricts UE RF tuning strictly to active frequency boundaries
  • Conserves battery power when throughput demand is low
  • Switched dynamically via DCI or timer to high-bandwidth BWP for heavy traffic
