5G-GUTI

5G Globally Unique Temporary Identifier

Temporary identifier assigned by AMF to identify the UE in subsequent signaling, preventing radio tracking.

Technical Explanation

The 5G-GUTI consists of the PLMN ID, AMF Identifier (GUAMI), and a 32-bit 5G-TMSI. The AMF assigns a new 5G-GUTI during initial registration and refreshes it periodically. Using 5G-GUTI instead of SUPI for paging and connection setup prevents third parties from tracking user location.

Key Functions

  • Temporary identity allocated by AMF masking the true subscriber identity
  • Composed of PLMN ID, AMF Identifier (GUAMI), and 32-bit 5G-TMSI
  • Refreshed periodically by the network to prevent location fingerprinting
