Terminal-Side ISAC Gesture Tracking

On-Device Integrated Sensing and Communication Gesture Recognition

Utilization of the handset's high-frequency 6G radar echoes to detect micro-gestures, vital signs, and hand motions without cameras.

Technical Explanation

By exploiting the ultra-wide bandwidths (several GHz) available in 6G sub-THz and upper mid-band (FR3), the smartphone's transceivers act simultaneously as high-resolution radar sensors. The terminal emits 6G sensing waveforms and captures the reflections from the user's fingers or chest. On-device signal processing algorithms extract micro-Doppler signatures to recognize fine sub-millimeter finger gestures (e.g. pinch, scroll, virtual button clicks) or track respiratory rates with zero reliance on optical cameras.

Key Functions

  • Performs sub-millimeter touchless gesture recognition in all lighting conditions
  • Extracts micro-Doppler signatures using onboard machine learning models
  • Preserves user privacy by avoiding camera recording in private spaces
  • Shares RF hardware seamlessly between gigabit data transmission and sensing
