Handset Dynamic SAR Beam Controller

Specific Absorption Rate Sensing and Directional Power Limiter on UEs

On-device safety system that senses when the phone is held against a human ear or pocket and instantly redirects sub-THz beams away from human tissue.

Technical Explanation

To deliver multi-gigabit speeds over sub-THz frequencies, terminals must radiate sufficient RF power. However, regulatory Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and power density (PD) limits strictly cap electromagnetic radiation entering the human body. The dynamic SAR beam controller couples capacitive proximity sensors and millimeter-wave radar detection. If a human head or hand is detected within 1 cm of a radiating array, the controller instantaneously steers power to alternative arrays facing free space.

Key Functions

  • Detects human tissue proximity within 1 centimeter in real-time
  • Redirects RF beam energy instantly away from the user's head or body
  • Maintains regulatory compliance with FCC, ICNIRP, and CE safety standards
  • Preserves maximum data throughput by utilizing free-space facing antenna arrays
