Technical Explanation
Free Space Optics (FSO) uses near-infrared lasers (e.g. 1550 nm) to transmit data through the atmosphere and outer space. Because optical beams have virtually zero beam divergence, FSO achieves multi-terabit throughput over tens of kilometers with total immunity to radio frequency interference and zero spectrum licensing costs. In 6G, FSO serves as the backbone for inter-satellite cross-links and rapid emergency base station backhauls.
