Zadoff-Chu Sequence

Zadoff-Chu CAZAC Sequence

Constant Amplitude Zero Autocorrelation (CAZAC) mathematical sequence used to generate PRACH preambles.

Technical Explanation

Zadoff-Chu sequences have constant amplitude in both time and frequency domains (ideal 0 dB Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and zero periodic autocorrelation for non-zero cyclic shifts. These properties allow the gNodeB to distinguish different preambles transmitted simultaneously with minimal cross-correlation.

Key Functions

  • Provides 0 dB PAPR for maximum power amplifier efficiency
  • Zero cross-correlation between different cyclic shifts of the same root
  • Enables simultaneous multi-user random access detection
