Dynamic I-Frame Prioritization

Video Codec Keyframe Dynamic Transmission Prioritization

Scheduler prioritization mechanism that assigns highest transmission priority to intra-coded keyframes (I-frames), protecting entire video GOP sequences.

Technical Explanation

In video codecs like H.265 and AV1, I-frames (Intra-frames) contain the full reference picture; if an I-frame is corrupted, dozens of subsequent P-frames cannot be decoded, causing severe visual artifacting. Rel-18 schedulers identify I-frame bursts via packet size or metadata signaling, assigning maximum MCS and HARQ protection until the keyframe is safely acknowledged.

Key Functions

  • Identifies multi-megabit video keyframes (I-frames) via packet size and flow markers
  • Allocates robust MCS and prioritized radio resource blocks to ensure zero-loss delivery
  • Prevents multi-second visual stuttering and video freezing across AR/VR headsets
  • Maximizes video Quality of Experience (QoE) while preserving total cell capacity
