Height-Dependent Power Control
Altitude-Adaptive Drone Uplink Power Control and Tilt Mitigation
Automatically throttles drone transmit power as altitude increases, preventing airborne drone transmissions from polluting ground base station receivers.
Technical Explanation
Because an airborne drone enjoys direct line-of-sight to dozens of base stations simultaneously, transmitting at full power can jam uplink receivers across an entire county. Rel-18 Height-Dependent Power Control uses barometric and GPS altitude readings to enforce strict transmission power ceilings that scale down as altitude increases, protecting ground cellular traffic.
Key Functions
- Scales drone uplink transmission power inversely with altitude to protect ground towers
- Prevents high-altitude line-of-sight drone signals from blinding terrestrial base stations
- Maintains required uplink SNR at the primary serving tower while minimizing interference
- Enforces compliance with national telecommunication regulatory airborne limits
