Technical Explanation
Terrestrial cellular networks were designed with down-tilted antennas to serve ground users; when a drone flies at 300 meters, it experiences poor signal from antenna side-lobes and severe interference from dozens of line-of-sight base stations simultaneously. Rel-18 (TR 38.834) standardizes 3D beam steering and interference mitigation specifically tailored for airborne drones.
