Enables parked cars and fixed smart street furniture with known GPS coordinates to serve as terrestrial positioning anchor nodes for surrounding moving devices.
Technical Explanation
In urban canyons where GPS signals are blocked by skyscrapers, stationary ground terminals can act as local reference beacons. Rel-18 Sidelink Anchor Nodes standardizes protocols allowing parked cars with surveyed positions to broadcast SL-PRS beacons over the PC5 interface, allowing passing vehicles and pedestrians to trilaterate their positions accurately.
