SBFD UE Capability Signaling

User Equipment SBFD Feature Set and Bandwidth Part Compatibility

RRC signaling parameters defining whether a terminal supports simultaneous multi-BWP operations, fast retuning, and CLI measurement reporting.

Technical Explanation

Not all user devices can transmit and receive simultaneously. In Release 18, UEs indicate their SBFD capability via RRC parameters: Category A devices operate strictly in half-duplex but adapt dynamically to SBFD sub-bands via Bandwidth Parts (BWPs); Category B devices possess full duplex hardware capable of simultaneous dual-link operation.

Key Functions

  • Signals terminal hardware capabilities regarding SBFD frequency support via RRC
  • Enables legacy half-duplex Release 15-17 terminals to operate smoothly on SBFD carriers
  • Configures sub-band-specific Bandwidth Parts (BWPs) matching terminal RF filters
  • Manages terminal power consumption during high-speed frequency hopping across sub-bands
