NCR Dynamic Gain Control

gNodeB-Commanded Dynamic Amplification Gain Management

Dynamically adjusts the repeater's amplifier gain on a slot-by-slot basis to prevent saturation when users are close and boost gain when users are distant.

Technical Explanation

If a user terminal walks directly beneath an NCR, fixed amplification will overdrive the receiver, causing clipping and out-of-band emissions. Rel-18 Dynamic Gain Control allows the gNodeB to instruct the repeater to scale its variable gain amplifiers (VGA) dynamically via SCI, maintaining optimal signal levels without distortion.

Key Functions

  • Adjusts variable gain amplifiers dynamically based on user proximity and signal strength
  • Prevents non-linear clipping distortion when mobile devices are situated close to the repeater
  • Boosts gain automatically to extend coverage to distant users at cell edges
  • Maintains compliance with 3GPP radiated spectrum emission masks
