eRedCap Narrowband 5 MHz RF Operating Bandwidth

Limits device RF transceiver filters to 5 MHz, allowing cheap analog front-ends and baseband processors while coexisting on wideband 100 MHz gNB carriers.

Technical Explanation

In Rel-18 eRedCap, user devices are constrained to a 5 MHz operating bandwidth (equivalent to 25 resource blocks at 15 kHz subcarrier spacing). The gNodeB schedules eRedCap devices inside designated narrow Bandwidth Parts (BWPs) embedded within its full 100 MHz carrier, allowing high-speed smartphones and cheap IoT devices to share the exact same radio carrier.
