AI Baseband Conformance Testing
RAN4 Standardized Verification Metrics for Air Interface AI/ML
Standard 3GPP RAN4 benchmark methodology to test and certify AI/ML-driven baseband algorithms across synthetic and field-recorded channel profiles.
Technical Explanation
Because neural network behaviors depend heavily on training weights, traditional deterministic conformance testing is insufficient. 3GPP RAN4 in Release 18 establishes standardized test channel datasets, baseline reference algorithms, and statistical performance envelopes (throughput percentiles, convergence time, inference latency) that any commercial AI modem must satisfy.
Key Functions
- Standardizes test methodologies for nondeterministic AI-driven baseband modems
- Defines minimum throughput and BLER certification thresholds across standardized channels
- Prevents vendor models from overfitting to simple test cases at the expense of field performance
- Ensures multi-vendor interoperability between UE AI engines and base stations
