PDCP Duplication
Packet Data Convergence Protocol Duplication
Transmitting duplicate PDCP PDUs across two or more independent radio links to achieve 99.999% URLLC reliability.
Technical Explanation
In PDCP Duplication, the transmitting PDCP entity duplicates a packet and routes the identical copies through two or more separate RLC entities over different carrier frequencies (in Carrier Aggregation) or distinct cell groups (in Dual Connectivity). The receiving PDCP entity discards the second duplicate, achieving ultra-high 99.999% reliability.
Key Functions
- Duplicates packets across independent radio paths (CA or Dual Connectivity)
- Achieves ultra-high 99.999% reliability for mission-critical URLLC
- Discards duplicate copies at receiver PDCP layer without upper-layer penalty
