NGAP

NG Application Protocol

Signaling protocol between gNodeB and AMF standardizing 3GPP TS 38.413 radio access procedures.

Technical Explanation

NGAP governs all control plane interactions across the N2 interface. It establishes, modifies, and releases PDU session resources in the RAN, coordinates inter-gNodeB N2 handovers, transfers mobility restriction lists, conveys Paging messages, and routes NAS control PDUs transparently.

Key Functions

  • Standardizes signaling across the N2 interface between gNodeB and AMF
  • Coordinates PDU Session Resource Setup, Modify, and Release
  • Controls N2 Handover, Paging, and Initial Context Setup
